Everything you need to know

QUESTIONS

The answers to what prospective owners ask most often — pricing, shipping, the subscription, and what makes Park Lantern different.

The product

What Park Lantern is and who it's for.

What is Park Lantern?

Park Lantern is a premium 15.6" touchscreen display that shows live Disney park data — wait times, vacation countdown, park hours, weather, show times, and dining. It sits on your kitchen counter, desk, or mantle and keeps you connected to the parks every day, whether you're counting down to a trip or checking wait times before a spontaneous visit.

How is it different from checking the Disney app on my phone?

Park Lantern is an always-on ambient display. You never unlock a phone, open an app, or search for anything. Glance at it while cooking dinner and see if Space Mountain is under 30 minutes. Your phone goes to sleep — Park Lantern is always showing you the parks.

It also supports all Disney parks worldwide on one screen, a ticking vacation countdown, and a dark/gold aesthetic designed to look beautiful in your home 24/7 — not just during a trip.

Which parks does it support?

All Disney parks worldwide: Walt Disney World (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom), Disneyland Resort (Disneyland, California Adventure), Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland. Configure up to 8 parks at a time. All are included in your subscription — no per-park fees.

What data does it show?

Live ride wait times (color-coded by length, sortable), vacation countdown (live ticking to your next trip), park operating hours, current weather and 5-day forecast for your parks and your hometown, fireworks and show schedules with countdown-to-showtime badges, and restaurant availability.

Does it work when I'm not on vacation?

That's actually when most people use it most. Check wait times from home before a spontaneous park visit (great for annual passholders), watch your countdown tick down over weeks, check Orlando weather while planning what to pack, and enjoy the ambient screensaver as a beautiful dark/gold display on your counter or mantle.

How big is it?

15.6 inches diagonal — about the size of a small laptop screen. It sits on a stand or mounts on a wall. Power is a standard USB-C cable.

Pricing & subscription

What it costs, what's included, and what happens over time.

How much does Park Lantern cost?

$175 gets you the 15.6" premium touchscreen display and your first full year of live park data. After year one, it's $50/year (about $4/month) to keep receiving live data. All parks worldwide are included — no per-park fees or add-ons, ever.

Is an ongoing subscription required?

Yes, to show live data. Your first year is included with the $175 hardware purchase. After year 1, an active $50/year subscription is required for park data, weather, show times, dining, and software updates. You can cancel anytime.

Why is there an annual fee?

Park Lantern pulls real-time data from multiple sources — wait times, show schedules, restaurant availability, weather — and pushes it to your display every 30 seconds. Maintaining those data connections, keeping up with park API changes, and running the infrastructure costs money. The $50/year covers that ongoing work so your display always shows accurate, live data.

What happens if I don't renew?

Your Park Lantern keeps working — just without live park data, weather, or trip countdown. It becomes a beautiful branded digital clock featuring the Park Lantern castle logo, so it's never just dark glass on your wall. Your settings, parks, and trips are all saved. Resubscribe anytime and everything comes back instantly, no reinstall needed.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Manage your subscription by scanning the QR code on the device (Settings → Subscription → Show QR Code) or visiting parklantern.com/account. Your display works until the end of your paid period. No cancellation fees.

Are there any hidden fees or upsells?

No. $175 once, $50/year after that. All parks included. All features included. No "pro" tier, no add-ons, no per-park unlocks, no ads. One clean price.

Shipping & returns

Getting your Park Lantern to you — and sending it back if needed.

What does shipping cost?

$9.99 flat-rate shipping with insurance to the continental 48 states. Orders ship within 3–5 business days via UPS Ground from the United States.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, but rates vary by destination. Contact us with your shipping address and we'll send you a quote within one business day. We currently ship to most of North America, Europe, and Asia.

When does it arrive?

Most orders arrive within 3–7 business days from the time they ship, depending on your location. You'll receive a tracking number by email the day your order ships.

How is it packaged?

The display ships in a custom-fit box with foam corner protectors and anti-static wrapping to prevent damage in transit. Your activation code card is included inside so you can set up right out of the box.

What if it arrives damaged?

Email support@parklantern.com with a photo of the damage and your order number. We'll ship a replacement at no cost and provide a prepaid return label for the damaged unit.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

Yes. If you're not satisfied, email us within 30 days of delivery. We'll provide a prepaid return shipping label and issue a full refund once we receive the display back in its original packaging.

Setup & first boot

Plug it in, connect to WiFi, enter your code, done.

How does setup work?

Plug it in, connect to WiFi, and enter your activation code (either by scanning the on-screen QR code with your phone, or typing it directly on the touchscreen). You'll see live park data in under 3 minutes. No apps to download, no accounts to create on the device.

Do I need to be technical to set it up?

Not at all. If you can connect to WiFi and tap a screen, you can set up Park Lantern. The display guides you through every step. We designed the setup experience specifically for non-technical users.

Does it require a phone?

No. A phone or tablet that can scan a QR code makes activation faster, but it's optional — you can type your 8-character activation code directly on the touchscreen instead. After setup, the device is fully standalone and never needs a phone again.

Can I give this as a gift?

Absolutely — it's become one of our most popular Disney gifts. The recipient plugs it in, connects to their WiFi, and enters the activation code from the card in the box. No technical knowledge required. The dark/gold packaging makes a great unboxing experience.

What if I can't find my activation code?

Your code is on the card inside the box and was also emailed when you ordered. If you can't find either, email support@parklantern.com with the email address on your order and we'll resend it right away.

Features in depth

The thoughtful details behind every screen.

How accurate are the wait times?

Wait times are sourced from the same data feeds used by park apps and update every 5 minutes. Each ride shows when it was last refreshed. You may occasionally see a 1–3 minute difference from the official app — this is normal and reflects the data update cycle.

What if my WiFi goes out?

Park Lantern caches recent data locally, so you'll still see the last-known wait times with a gentle banner noting the connection dropped. It reconnects automatically when WiFi returns. No data is lost.

Can I configure what the screensaver shows?

Yes. Three built-in screensaver styles: Breathing Castle (pulsing gold logo), Drifting Castle (floating logo for burn-in prevention), and Ambient Countdown (large trip number). Select in Settings → Display → Screensaver. You can also set screen-off hours so the display goes dark at night.

Will it damage the screen to leave it on 24/7?

Park Lantern has built-in hardware care features: burn-in prevention (subtle 1–2 pixel shifting every 30 minutes), configurable screen-off hours (default 11PM–6AM), reduced data polling during idle, and a nightly app refresh at 3AM. These extend the display's lifespan well beyond typical use. We recommend leaving screen-off hours enabled for the longest hardware life.

Does it support 5GHz WiFi?

Yes. Park Lantern supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi. We recommend 5 GHz for faster data updates and less interference from other devices.

Comparisons

How Park Lantern stacks up.

How does it compare to the competition?

Park Lantern offers a 15.6" display (56% larger than alternatives), includes all parks worldwide at no extra cost, and costs less over 3 years: $275 total vs. $459+ for comparable products. Premium dark/gold design. Setup in 3 minutes vs. confusing captive-portal setups.

See the full comparison on the pricing page.

Could I just put a cheap tablet on my counter?

Sure — if you want to build the software yourself, babysit app crashes, worry about burn-in, and look at the Android UI every time you glance over. Park Lantern is hardware + software + data all designed to work together 24/7, with a premium dark/gold aesthetic that belongs in your home, not a developer's desk.

Is Park Lantern affiliated with Disney?

No. Park Lantern is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The Walt Disney Company. We simply love the parks and built a better way to keep up with them. Park data is powered by Queue-Times.com and ThemeParks.wiki.
